Integrated care leader Grane Hospice Care, Inc. is expanding its core interdisciplinary teams, and seeks a physician with strong management skills for a unique Medical Director position. This role is critical to the success of the center, its staff and its extended patient community, as it directly oversees medical direction for the hospice program. The Medical Director will be a senior member of the center’s team, and a vital participant in the overarching and patient-specific interdisciplinary process.

Grane Hospice provides a higher level of hospice care through a low patient to nurse ratio, allowing for more care time whenever needed. Our mission is to provide premium comfort care to patients, families, and caregivers through an interdisciplinary team approach that understands, respects, and meets individual needs. As an organization, we strive to provide our patients, families, and caregivers with the highest level of satisfaction through our strong clinical outcomes and innovative approach by maintaining our core values of devotion, honesty, dignity, and respect.

The Medical Director will have a host of diverse clinical and managerial responsibilities, and should thrive in an interdisciplinary, team-driven environment. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing medical direction for Grane Hospice, including all aspects of clinical management
  • Carrying out comprehensive medical consultations for all hospice personnel, with primary physician responsibilities for all patients in-home and onsite
  • Providing in-services to hospice personnel
  • Providing feedback and recommendations during regular interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Consulting on pain and symptom management techniques, as needed
  • Consulting with patient’s existing, attending physicians, and acting as the primary care physician to those patients who desire to relinquish care
  • Understanding and applying all state, federal and center policies/regulations, as well as Medicare Hospice benefits
  • Training Grane Hospice Care staff, affiliated physicians, personnel and volunteers with regards to medical aspects of caring for terminally ill patients

The Medical Director is expected to be available for medical consultations and discussions with hospice personnel, identifying alternative coverage whenever unavailable.

All applicants should be licensed to practice medicine in the state of Pennsylvania, with full board eligibility/certification in internal medicine, oncology or an appropriate medical society. Additionally, candidates should have three or more years of experience, expertise in pain/symptom management and be familiar with principles of quality management/ethical issues surrounding hospice and home health care.
